vgarage user guide

Records, reminders and live diagnostics for iPhone and Android.

Getting started

vgarage works on iPhone (iOS 17 or later) and Android (8.0 or later). There is no account to create: open the app and add your first vehicle.

  1. On the Cars tab, tap Add Vehicle.
  2. Enter at least the make and model. Nickname, year, colour, VIN and plate are optional.
  3. Choose the fuel type and enter the current mileage.
  4. Tap Save. Your vehicle appears in the garage list.

Vehicles

Add as many vehicles as you like. Each one has an Info tab with mileage and running costs, a Service tab and a Fuel tab (called Charge for electric vehicles).

Supported fuel types are gasoline, diesel, hybrid and electric. You can attach a photo, and edit or delete a vehicle from the menu on its page.

Service log and reminders

Record each job in the Service tab: oil change, tyre rotation, inspection, repair, brake service, battery service or other. Add the date, mileage, cost and any notes.

To be reminded about the next job, turn on Remind by Date, Remind by Mileage, or both, and set when it is next due.

  • A vehicle is marked due soon when a job is close, and overdue once it has passed.
  • Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device, so they work offline.
  • Allow notifications when asked, or the reminders won't be able to alert you.

Fuel and charging

In the Fuel tab, add a fill-up with the date, odometer reading, quantity and price. The total is calculated for you, or you can enter it directly. For electric vehicles, log charging sessions instead.

Over time vgarage shows your running costs and average efficiency, in miles per gallon or litres per 100 km depending on your unit setting.

Live diagnostics

The Live tab reads data from your car in real time through a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter. vgarage works with Bluetooth Low Energy ELM327-style adapters; Android also supports classic Bluetooth adapters, which iPhones can't use.

  1. Plug the adapter into your car's OBD2 port and switch the ignition on.
  2. Open the Live tab, accept the safety notice, and tap Connect OBD2 Adapter.
  3. Allow Bluetooth access when asked, then choose your adapter from the list.

Once connected you will see readings such as speed, RPM, coolant temperature, fuel level, engine load, battery voltage and run time. Use Check to read trouble codes and see what each one means.

No adapter yet? Choose Try without hardware to explore the screen with simulated data.

Safety

Diagnostic readings can be inaccurate. Use the Live screen only while parked. Clearing trouble codes erases freeze-frame data and resets emissions readiness monitors.

Backups and restore

Your data lives on your device, so keeping a backup is up to you. From Settings you can:

  • Back up to a file and choose where to save it, then restore from that file later.
  • iPhone: back up to your own iCloud Drive, manually or automatically.
  • Android: connect Google Drive. Backups go to a folder in your Drive, and the app can only see files it created itself.

A backup file made on one platform also restores on the other, which makes moving between iPhone and Android straightforward.

Backups are not encrypted by the app

Backup files contain your vehicle data, including VIN, plate and photos. Keep them somewhere only you can access.

Units and currency

In Settings, switch between Imperial (miles, gallons, mpg) and Metric (kilometres, litres, L/100 km), and pick your currency.

Changing units or currency only changes how values are shown. Your saved records are not converted or altered.

Privacy

vgarage has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and Xiyro runs no server that receives your data. Read the full privacy policy.
